English
Summer 2010 Course for Juniors and Young Adults
Terms
(15-18 years old)
English courses at the The Language Institute are more than just classroom based exercises. We know that many students are taught a good level of English at school but they do not have the opportunity to practice it. We also know that learning comes much easier when done in a relaxed, fun atmosphere.
At our school juniors have the opportunity to partake in a theme based research project through English. Activities are carried out both inside and outside the classroom. This gives students the opportunity to speak and learn English spontaneously and can apply it to real life. In the classroom, students consolidate their learning by recording and revising language as they organise their project together. At the end of the course students have a record of their learning and research which they can take home with them.
- Students are supervised and tutored by qualified native English language teachers throughout the course
- Project themes and activities can be discussed and planned with the The Language Institute before the course begins
Why do we choose to educate through themed project work?
At the beginning of the course each student's level is assessed. As all our activities are based on research, discovery and communication this means that project work can be adapted to the language level of the students and designed to meet their needs. Guided by their teacher, the students themselves provide the level that they will use for communicating, for example, the questions which are set for the local survey.
Interaction with native speakers also provides them with the opportunity to learn informal, colloquial language which is not found in class textbooks. Through research using native speakers' sources of information, such as the library, students get the chance to expand their vocabulary and knowledge in an interactive and interesting way.
